They’re perfect, so please don’t get them reupholstered! Your dilemma is a tough one because it depends on the severity of the problem. If the smell is just in the outer fabric, leaving them out in the fresh air could do the trick. You could also try sprinkling baking soda over the upholstery and let it sit for few hours (overnight is best) then vacuum it off. In the worst case scenario, you’ll have to call in a professional steam cleaner to do the job, which would still be much cheaper than paying to have them recovered. Good luck! :-)
